This week’s podcast discusses what to expect when you are looking into in-home care! When it comes to deciding if a little extra help around your loved ones home will be beneficial, something that can greatly help is a home visit. A home visit is done in order to get things sorted out before making the decision to invite in that extra help. Most home care visits are fairly standard but we will outline what an EPAGA Home Care visit will entail.

When it comes to in home care, it’s important to get familiar with it before there is a dire need. Do research, find a fit that is good in order to prevent uncomfortable happenings with a first time home visit during a time of crisis. Plan a home visit in order to get ahead of the game.

To begin with, you’re going to want to give a call so that information can be gathered to ensure you will be able to be helped or lead in the direction to someone who can. We want to be able to gather other information to bring along other resources. This isn’t just a meeting to determine whether or not we can provide services, it is also to make sure that you know we are trustworthy, that you will be comfortable with bringing our services into your home. We also want to make sure we can provide you or your loved ones with a skill match as well as a personality match.

When a home visit is planned, you will receive a call beforehand in order to ensure that the meeting is still planned to prevent a surprise visit. A home visit typically consists of quite a bit of paperwork, none of which is binding here at EPAGA Home Care. Paperwork will include a service agreement, rates, assessment and care plan, and any other necessary information.

There will be discussion of how many hours you will need the care. Some companies have a minimum, ours being a total of 4 hours a week, with a 2 hour shift minimum. Rates will vary with the number of clients per home, what services are needed, as well as during the holidays.

A walk through will be done of what help you will be needing, from meal prep to help with meds, bathroom things to help with physical therapy. An assessment of the set up of the home will be done to see what will need to be added to ensure safety. There are many things to be discussed at this home visit so it’s important to communicate so we can help with these sensitive conversations. At the end of this visit you will be left with all of our contact information while you decide whether this is a fit for you!
